Antique Fine Linen Ruffled Sham
Item Number B03606
Flawless but for three tiny pinholes near the monogram, this fine linen bolster case exudes both simplicity and femininity with it's deep ruffles and clean Venetian drawn work hems. The case is open on both ends, each of which has opposing buttonholes. These would have been used with fabric "cufflinks" that would have been removed when the piece was laundered and pressed. Alas, these are long since gone. But one could easily run satin ribbon through the buttonholes if desired for a really prissy effect. The linen is lawn quality and extremely fine.
The monogram is deserving of the D. Porthault name, though I can not prove it's provenance -- Heavenly, professionally designed and hand executed. Freshly laundered and pressed, in excellent condition, as described. c.1900 - 1920 22" X 32" plus 4" ruffle on each end (displayed below with a queen size pillow inside)
