Vintage and Antique Linens by Em's Heart Early Society Silk Embroidered Pin Cushion or Lace Making Pillow Item Number C06904 She was clearly a society seamstress with access to the best that money could buy -- silk, satin and handmade lace. Antique pin cushion or a lace making pillow?...I lean toward the former because lace making pillows were generally a bit larger and often round. At 12" X 7.5", not including the lace, it is still a substantial piece! The red silk shows wear on the ends where it was used to hold pins. The silk embroidery is wild and beautiful in great society silk style -- a thoughtful free form arrangement in detailed and layered stitches. The cushion is stuffed with sawdust and is quite heavy. The hand made lace is in good shape except for one corner, shown below. This fabulous Society Silk embroidered piece is much more beautiful in person! The flash, which was necessary to get the true colors, unfortunately accentuated the wear that is not nearly as noticeable in person.... a marvelous collector piece! Excellent condition, offered as found. c.1880's Item Sold $145
