Vintage and Antique Linens by Em's Heart Antique Independence Day Federal Eagle Chenille Banner Item Number C07504 This fabulous piece of Americana was found with other textiles dating to the 1870's. It was brown when I brought it home....The wonders of linen wash and a mild oxy clean soak have transformed it into something closer to it's former self. Oh, the wonders of modern cleaning solutions! There are shadows of age, holes and one remaining rust spot, see below, but in all, it is in great shape for it's age. The fabric is strong, and now that the old sugar starch has been soaked away, with proper care it should last at least another 150 years! There are buttonhole stitched loops on the top that were used to secure this piece to an upstairs balcony for display on July 4th. The chenille is all hand made and each "poof" is individually attached. This may have been made to commemorate the Centennial in 1876. I am hopelessly patriotic. If this piece is still here on July 4th it will be displayed from my balcony! A collector piece. c.1850's - 1870's 22" X 52" Item Sold Antique Eagle Chenille Independence Day Banner $125
