Antique Linens by Em's Heart Antique Christening Gown with Ayershire Whitework, Nun's Pleats and Lace Item Number C14405 If you love Ayershire whitework embroidery, well... Row after row of delectable Ayershire whitework embroidery are stitched together to form a 12.5" border on this beautiful antique christening gown. Amazingly, it was made without a proper pattern so, for example, the sleeve seams fall in an odd place and there is no back seam at all, just a slit in the fabric that was folded over and hemmed by hand. Long seams were stitched by machine. The shorter seams were all done by hand in tiny little running stitches that boggle the mind. All the narrow lace is hand made -- beautiful and fine bobbin lace. A smudge and loose seam under the arm are the only flaws to report, shown below. There is no apparent method of closure at the back. My research indicates this piece has considerable age at 42" in length. 18" chest, sleeves are 5" measured under the arm. Circumference at bottom is 64". Wonderful whitework and entirely wearable, offered in pristine condition, as found. c.1880 Item Sold Antique Christening gown $275
