Baby Bonnet

Splendid antique finest cotton muslin bonnet is naively embroidered and finished with a large floral motif that is inset with hand made net. Numerous small holes in the cotton and several in the net...but still a fine example from antiquity for bonnet collectors. Entirely hand sewn and finished at one time with silk ties....part of one remains on one side of the piece, shown below. Channeled cording was used to adjust the bonnet for size. Most remarkable is the fact that the cording is hand woven of several strands of linen...an amazing thing to observe under magnification! Freshly laundered and pressed, in good condition for age, as described. c.1800 or earlier 10" neck, 13" brim.
