Boudoir Sham, Monogrammed "LK"

One of two nearly identical antique Italian linen boudoir shams is fabulously embroidered with Italianate forms that alternate with needlelace fillings on finest clear creamy white linen. The front and back are attached with an intricate needlelace border that shows when the pillow is inserted -- Oh MY!! The open end was apparently "closed" with silk ribbons that were woven through the lace and tied at each corner...remnants of the ribbon remain attached, see below. A central monogram is distinctive for it's crisp diamond design....beautifully hand executed, "LK"...surname "K". The best of the best in hand work and design of this type...likely Edwardian, understated, an amazing piece. Freshly laundered and pressed, in excellent condition. c.1900 - 1920. 15.5" X 13.5"
