Stunning and nearly perfect "Poppies" antique society silk embroidered linen centerpiece represents superior skill in both design and hand work. Amazingly realistic silk embroidered Poppies embody the perfection sought with the society silk embroidery style. The Kensington stitch used layers, directionality and fine gradations of shade to achieve the botanical realism we have come to so thoroughly admire. This piece is truly lovely with it's brilliant display of the botanical form in all stages of bloom. Pulled lace inserts are actually appliqués of lace that are finished with perfect satin stitched borders. The creamy white linen is very fine and nearly perfect except for one tiny gray dot, shown below. Freshly laundered and pressed, in excellent condition. c.1890 - 1910 19" round
