Antique Linens by Em's Heart
Antique Cluny Lace Monogrammed Hanky, "ET"
Item Number H35307
Creamy white fine antique
linen lawn is trimmed with handmade English Bedfordshire lace and finished with an amazing double monogram, "ET"
executed in the French layered presentation. This fabulous original design
had me stumped until I followed my own rules for deciphering monograms
:-) :
First, find the weight of the embroidery -- the thickest or
widest part. Then follow that line out in both directions with your eye.
On a monogram like this one it's obvious that we have an "E". So you must
"exclude" from the other letter the obvious "E" elements...subtract them out as
you follow the weight of the other letter in both directions, as described
above. But in the end you should go with what your eye says if the piece
is to by yours.
A couple of tiny holes,
shown below, are flaws of note that will assure your "E" that this is, indeed,
"something old". Absolutely special for your Elizabeth, Emily, Emma or ...Em!
Good to excellent condition, freshly laundered and pressed. c.1860's - 1890's ...could
be earlier... 12.5" X 13"
