Amazing Antique Homespun
Kitchen Linen Towel or Mangle Cloth

Heavenly homespun French or German linen was woven with great care in the same pattern as the heavier wool woven coverlets of the same origin and period. The pale indigo blue window pane plaid adds interest and defines the woven paneled details. Ends are folded and basted (basting is coming out) giving the impression that the piece was never used. Remnants of age laundered away except a faint area, shown below.
The linen ground is creamy white and medium to heavy weight...sturdy, weighty, luscious to handle...oh my! Size suggests it might have been intended to be used as a mangle cloth but the texture of the weave makes me think not....scrunch it up on your amazing antique kitchen farm table or drape it over a special window....pllllleeeeeeaaze?! Offered in excellent condition, freshly laundered and pressed. c.1860 - 1900 25" X 69.5"
