Battenburg Tape Lace

Nearly perfect antique net lace curtain panels have exquisite Battenburg tape lace inserts and borders in leafy fans and arabesque swirls. These are in astounding condition and appear to have seen little or no use. The top was finished with a front facing pocket to form a self valance, shown below. This could be removed to bring them back to their original length of 90". At present they are 82" in length.
The panels are designed to be the right and left of opposing windows or sides of a window and thus, are mirror images of each other. So rare to have a matched set of this age in near perfect condition! I found few flaws -- one or two single broken threads in the net and perhaps one broken bride. Also, there is some minor damage to the narrow tape on the outer hems, shown below. They are aged to ecru and will soak to cream. An amazingly beautiful Victorian pair! Really beautiful! c.1880's - 1920's 40" X 82" each (90" long if the top pocket is removed) There is an additional single panel. See information at the end of this page.
