Splendid antique Ayrshire embroidered whitework flounce is in perfect condition. A detailed repeating leaf pattern includes eyelets, seed stitches and satin fillings to create the look of lace with just a needle and thread. Though beautiful enough to grace the finest outer garment, this kind of lace was often found on petticoats and bloomers. This piece appears to have been left over from a century-ago project, lucky for us! Absolutely yummy....worthy of your collection. Excellent condition, freshly laundered and pressed. c.1860 - 1880 3.5" X 30.5" Embroidery is 2.5" deep.
