Some of us
shamelessly adore orange...let us vow in their presence to never
again euphemize this vibrant color with labels like "peach" or "sunset" or the
ever-so palatable, "pumpkin". These are orange. Bright, delightful,
over-the-top
orange. There. I
said it.
French cotton 'utility'
napkins (are you kidding me? - NO!) were intended
for everyday use at breakfast or a mid-day meal. The hand embroidered
double monogram "LL" is superbly executed in contrasting white at the center of
each. One with age on the back (that doesn't show through) shown below,
will launder. Each has hand sewn turned-up hems on two sides, done this
way to facilitate and simplify ironing on the back side. This was a common
practice in the making of European table linen...enormously practical for
everyday things, don't you think? Of the other two sides, one is selvedge
and one is slightly fringed....to be left or hemmed at your discretion.
Charming, brilliant,
better in person. You likely will never again see an identical set.
Offered as found, unused in original, excellent condition. c.1950
