These are in such sad shape, I am selling them individually to collectors for the monogram and coat of arms only. How sad! But imagine the work that went into just one of these extraordinary organdy coasters! The coat of arms is just 1 inch tall!! How on earth did they see to do this kind of work? If someone knows, please email me... My research on these turned up "Presque Isles" in Maine, Michigan, Wisconsin and Virginia. These were acquired locally with no history....but I am certain they are the product of Madeira workwomanship. Hand embroidered with microscopic seed stitching. Most have holes. Three or four have no holes but faint small spots. The stitching is pale blue/gray. c.1940's
