Enormous antique French linen damask napkins are monogrammed in the center of each, "RR". Some call them "lapkins" as they were made large enough to cover the substantial skirts of the 19th century, these would definitely qualify as such -- they are nearly a yard wide by 2.5 feet! If you love the thought that these were once used at a formal French table seated with grandly attired Victorian guests, these will provide you with ample food for your imagination to be sure.
The gorgeous hand embroidered monogram is balanced by the vivid damask medallion at the center of the linen on these extraordinary antique napkins. The thick woven damask is creamy white and quite substantial. Sides are beautifully hand hemmed to perfection. Many of these have ancient darns, one has a large area of wear away from the monogram, two have tiny holes and one has two faint bluish marks near the monogram...all of these issues are shown below but should not interfere with use or display. If you fancy yourself a seamstress you will love the extraordinary mends. They might inspire you to give it a try! These hand darns are so well done they will likely out last the linen! Ever-so shabby but still very useful for your table or display. They are in good shabby condition and are clean and pressed. c.1860's - 70's 30" X 34.5"
