Antique Chemical Lace

Cocktail Napkins or Coasters

Item Number N72710

Antique chemical lace cocktail napkins were intended to replicate a more expensive handmade lace called Point de Gaz. Chemical laces, so called because of the process used to reduce the paper pattern to dust using chemicals, were highly fashionable amongst the not-so-wealthy as a delightful substitute for impossible-to-afford handmade laces of the period.  Because these pieces were actually used and enjoyed, it is rare to find them in a complete set and in such good condition.  Most of these have a break or two, as shown below, but they are in excellent, useful condition.  c.1880's - 1900  4" round
