Antique finest linen lawn pillowcases are fabulously finished with deep, densely gathered ruffles....Fine, whitest linen is hand woven and contains "ending threads" and a number of slubs, one shown below. Two tiny holes, also shown, are the only flaws. Every seam is stitched by hand with teeny tiny regular stitching that could cause blindness or hysteria if attempted by a modern seamstress....best to buy these rather than risk it, don't you think??
Deep, dense ruffles bring to mind the saucy femininity of Victorian "good girls" as with equally overstated petticoats that made a girl feel beautiful even though they were hidden from view. These, however, were meant to be seen and enjoyed....a true feminine delight. Excellent condition as described, freshly laundered and pressed. c.1860's - 90's 16.25" X 35.25" including 3.75" ruffles
