Antique Linens by Em's Heart Antique European Embroidered Layover Shams Monogram "CP" Item Number P23807 Fine antique European linen is just different than domestic or contemporary linen. These softest antique linen shams are surely of European origin of the finest long fiber flax linen --they are likely French or Italian as that is where so much of the finer linen was produced through the first part of last century. The best linen was wet spun using the ancient hand method verses the more modern dry spinning method that was introduced in the late 19th century. Wet spinning of long linen fibers produces the finest weave and the softest, most supple hand that is instantly cool to the touch. This delectable linen is readily identified by textile aficionados (moi) who have experience dealing in finer European pieces... Cheerful Italian figural embroidery on these antique linen layover shams brings to mind a Victorian day at the beach, complete with bathing suit clad children in sunhats. An elaborate garden blooms beneath the monogram, all gloriously hand embroidered with classic Italian fillings and forms on whitest white fine linen. There are two matching shams...one was "awol" on the ironing board during this photo session. They are both just about perfect...extraordinary, really, don't you think?? Charming for your Martha's Vineyard summer digs or country cottage anywhere! Freshly laundered and pressed, in excellent condition. c.1890 - 1920. 43" wide X 30" high Item Sold Pair of large antique Italian embroidered linen shams, layered monogram "CP" $295 pair
