Romance and resolve form the basis of this Italian motto, Amore e Fede translated Love and Faith-- a romantic sentiment for these antique Italian layover shams. These were no doubt part of a wedding trousseau and like so many pieces of the period, were put away and never used because of their special significance and beauty.
Both machine and hand embroidery are of the highest quality incorporating vines, flowers and cutwork details that surround the embroidered motto. Two small dots on one of the shams are the only 'flaws' of note. Need I say, a perfect gift for newly weds? Creamy white linen will lighten to white. Excellent, unused condition, freshly laundered and pressed. c.1900 - 1920's 30" X 40"
