Antique finest linen lawn pillow shams are fabulously finished with densely gathered ruffles....Fine, creamy linen is drapey and silky to touch. Most seams are stitched by hand with teeny tiny regular stitching that could cause blindness or hysteria if attempted by a modern seamstress....best to buy these rather than risk it, don't you think??
Deep, dense ruffles were the definition of femininity 100 years ago, though were mostly hidden from view...and perhaps it is truer today that girly girls are not afraid to buy them, use them...even wear them to be seen (I confess..)
This set of antique shams is a true feminine delight, though wear to the front, shown below reveals their age. The backs are finished with hand sewn button holes and old shell buttons...The linen is fine lawn and is creamy white to coordinate with your other pieces. Sweet embroidered scallops finish the ruffles perfectly. A confection for your eyes and your fingertips...Good, useful condition, freshly laundered and pressed, but not recommended for the heads of burly, manly men loggers...jus' sayin'... c.1880's - 1920's 20" X 28" including 3" ruffles inside dimensions 15" X 22"
