Gorgeous antique Italian lace tray cloth is beautifully embellished with embroidered and cutwork panels of finest cream linen alternating with figural filet lace. Two large inserts depict mythological scenes...the details are astounding, right down to the eyes, belly buttons and scales on the fish. The hand made filet lace and net is over embroidered by hand to further define the images. Six smaller figural filet lace inserts alternate with embroidered linen and form an outer border. The piece is trimmed with figural filet lace depicting pairs of birds. Extraordinary both for it's size and the complexity of the hand work. Classically Italian and perfect in every way. I could find no flaws. Freshly laundered and pressed, in excellent condition. c.1880 - 1920 18" X 28"
