Sought after and timeless antique French Matelasse coverlet has a classic center medallion pattern that features an elaborate round medallion of Acanthus leaves. White, medium to heavy weight, the pattern is perky and detailed and is finished with embroidered, scalloped hems on all four sides.
Spectacular arabesque style medallion is framed with double border...one intricate and eluding to the style of Normandy lace...the other a deep and classic repeated pattern that is a hallmark of this style of coverlet. White and bright as the day it was made. One little dot, shown below, and one embroidered scallop has a few broken threads. Freshly laundered and pressed, in excellent condition. c.1890 84" X 96"
