Beautiful antique buggy blanket with gorgeous red, green, brown and black design. This horse hair buggy blanket was used by the Hudson family on the Hudson cotton plantation in Greenville, South Carolina. This piece has seen some wear, with a corner area in need of a small re-weave, though it is intact. There are scattered small areas of wear but it is structurally sound and nearly 3/4" thick. The back is solid black. The front is, well, more beautiful than the pictures portray. Fabulous antique textile. It has a maker's mark, "Chase", see below. c.1850 - 1890 There are others.
