Antique Wholecloth Baby Quilt

Item Number S05704

Antique quilts of this style usually are done as wedding quilts  The French called them "boutis".  The "wholecloth" style was used to highlight the talents of the quilter.  This one is finely executed on white cotton with pale yellow quilting thread.  The outer swag border surrounds a diamond quilted inner border which encloses the central floral diamond.  This quilt is white.  The yellowish shadow seen below is a reflection from my yellow sheers hanging in an adjacent window.  The edges are a bit frayed, see below.  And there is one stubborn light rust spot that appears on only one side.  This piece would be great as a table topper or lap blanket.  Much prettier in person!!!  A rare collector piece.  c.1880's-1900. 38" X 47.5"

$125
