Vintage and Antique Linens by Em's Heart Antique Middle Eastern Textile "Nights of Arabia" Style Item Number S09805 This unusual textile from the middle east was purchased at a "high end" estate sale in the mid West (USA) several years ago. I loved it when I first laid eyes on it but to this day I'm not sure what it is. It is hand woven of cotton, extremely fine wool, silk and hair. These fibers all appear to have a purpose of their own -- to show color, texture or to provide strength. In my reading about the weavings of Kashmir there is a good bit of information about the special wool used that is feather light and was often mixed with other fibers. This piece is very light in weight for it's size. The scenes are symmetrical and balanced appearing the same on all 4 corners, long sides and short sides. It is reversible but the silk embroidered details do not appear on the reverse side. There are areas of discoloration, holes, and a large area of damage to the left of the center panel. The edges are heavily frayed. The dyes all appear to be natural. Note the pink and cream silk hand embroidered details. Also, note the crescent moon and star motif that appears repeatedly throughout the piece. This piece could certainly be repurposed as pillows or a smaller tablecloth. 19th century, perhaps 1850 - 75 or later? 60" X 74" Item Sold $75
