Rare and nearly perfect antique linen baby christening blanket is rather like a papoose when your little one is wrapped inside. The baby's head is surrounded with rows of bobbin lace and linen bows are tied to keep him snuggy warm. The piece unfolds and opens with buttons like a duvet where a wool felt blanket, long since gone, would have been inserted during cold weather. These are extremely rare as they are usually passed down in families...so unusual to have one offered for sale....and in perfect condition except for a small, light gray mark which is shown below but is hidden when the flaps are folded and tied. A perfect christening blanket to start your own family tradition. Probably German or French. Freshly laundered and pressed. c.1880's - 1900 17" X 37" folded
