Antique linen French sheet is beautifully monogrammed in raised satin stitch, "CF" in the style that has come to be known as Rembourré, which is French for "padded". Rembourré is a three dimensional and highly durable style of embroidery that creates a depth and presence to the work through various layering techniques....two letters here quite likely represented initials from both him and her....so sappy, but ever-so sweet, too. Fuchsias are embroidered within each letter...representing the surname "F". The Victorian custom of using a floral theme that coordinates with the surname is ever-so charming, don't you think?? The creamy white linen is crisp, cool to the touch in a tightly woven medium to heavy weight for great durability. An deep row of hand made needlelace finishes the piece. Freshly laundered and pressed, in excellent condition. c.1900 92" X 124"
