Storied Antique Filet Lace Tea Cloth

Item Number T17405

It tells a story of the sculpting of a statue, perhaps in tribute to the person from whom the laurel wreath is taken...I love pieces that tell a story.  The pictures below of each scene show the progression from inception to completion of the tribute.  The four corners are also different and include a torch and arrow, a trumpet and two different basket themes.

This remarkable piece is hand made antique figural filet lace.  The background mesh is hand made and the figures are hand woven onto it according to a pattern.  Though there are two breaks in the lace, shown below, and though delicate, it is not fragile and is suitable for display or use.  There are several faint areas of age that do not detract from it's beauty.  This piece is stunning both for it's content and it's construction.   Hand laundered in LeBlanc Linen Wash only.  Excellent condition for age.  Intriguing and collectable.  c.1880's - 1900.  41.5" X 43"
