An amazing work of art in a simple textile, this heavy, hand woven antique linen damask tablecloth is lushly patterned with carnations from bud to full bloom. The selvedges are deep and deliberate, unlike the later machine woven linens, and the damask pattern has a blockiness to it that is seen in these amazingly old pieces. A large hallmark appears in all four corners.
The creamy white linen is heavy, weighty and at the same time, divinely soft. If you are used to 20th century damask, this will be an a amazing treat for your senses. A faint line of age where a fold used to be lightened considerably when I laundered it and will likely launder out the next time through. There were several very, very minor old spots that resisted my best efforts to photograph them. A short 3/4"fray at the center of one hem is easily overlooked or repaired. This is a piece you will not be afraid to use...trust me. You'll want to sleep under it -- I'll never tell..ssshhhhh! Freshly laundered and pressed, in excellent condition with consideration for age. c.1800 - 1850 90" X 122"
