Unusual antique embroidered tablecloth (alter cloth?) is trimmed in deep embroidered net lace for a frilly and feminine finish. The silk embroidery is done with a tambour hook by hand with gold silk floss. The linen ground is pieced suggesting this was conceived and made at home. Drapey and dripping lace makes this a fabulous shawl...ask me how close I came to keeping it when I tried it on!! Whew! A small faint spot and a few tiny discolored threads are the only flaws in the linen. A small hole in the lace and several very small minor separations can easily be ignored or repaired. Offered as found in excellent condition. c.1900 42" X 79" including 6" lace all around
